A Civic Campus for a Growing City
The City of Indio built the new campus to reinforce its long-term commitments to education, economy, and community engagement. The city broke ground on the new Civic Center Campus on January 17, 2024. The campus sits near College of the Desert and faces the downtown business district, which places City Hall at the center of daily life in Indio.
Design Inspired by the Desert
Holt Architecture modeled the new City Hall on the surrounding desert landscape. The building takes a boulder-like angular form, and angled outdoor balconies cut into the plaza-facing facade to create deep recesses. Angled structural columns break through each floor and visually stitch all three levels together. A striking mid-century modern color palette breaks up the scale of the building at ground level and makes a large government building feel inviting and community-oriented.

Spaces Built for Public Service
The finished Indio City Hall includes a public lobby, open office areas, conference rooms, and City Council chambers. The new council chambers are substantially larger than the previous space, giving residents more room to take part in local government. The library and City Hall share a public plaza that connects the two buildings and gives the community a new place to gather downtown.
Built for Long-Term Service
The project includes a public plaza, enhanced desert landscaping, and a greenbelt across the 134,332-square-foot site. Site work also included parking, a generator, and photovoltaic canopies that generate renewable energy. The PV canopies support the city’s goals to reduce energy consumption and lower its carbon footprint.
Opening the Doors to the Community
The City of Indio celebrated the grand opening on May 20, 2026, with an official ceremony, guided tours of the new building, and light refreshments. The new facilities now give residents welcoming spaces to gather, learn, and connect. Magnum thanks the City of Indio, Tilden-Coil Constructors, and Holt Architecture for their partnership in bringing this civic campus to life.
